SOAR Guidelines and Expectations
1. One class period, rotating, 2x a month except for Dec and May

3. Adherence to the prepared lesson plan –follow it –

Grade level committee chair (Joy-9, Tara-10, Janelle-11, Perry-12) will go over LP with advisors on Wednesday before SOAR activities so everyone is on the same page.

Todd will be overall supervisor; Wendy and Roberta will be Quality Assurance Mentors to advisors


4. Student and advisor feedback after each session – online survey, student accountability for completion (incentive track- attendance, engagement, and completion with activities will yield results)
5. Student online portfolio thru Career Cruising
6. The focus of SOAR is building acceptable social skills, and making relevant connections between careers (soft and hard workforce skills-SCANS) and rigorous academics
7. SOAR will be on a Wiki – Joy will develop (Lesson plans, evaluation surveys, schedule, expectations, link from homepage,
8. Participation is strongly encouraged; positive advisor buy in will influence student participation
9. Students ask, Why are we doing this? State the need from the lesson plan and statistics
10. Advisors will progress with students; If you start with freshmen, you will stay their advisor until they graduate. As other schools have found this to be an effective model, Flandreau will use this model also.
11. Parent communication – newsletter article, one page flier for registration, at PT Conferences Career Cruzn software program available to parents with Mrs. Firman / Mr. Foster. Parents are encouraged to talk with SOAR advisors about student SOAR activities and progress if interested. Report cards have SOAR advisor on it.
12. Students will ask:
Why are we doing this? State the lesson plan purpose & research, prepare for junior and senior project, National Honor Society application, scholarship applications, resumes, have a part in determining your future

What are we going to do?
State overview of lesson; direct student to wiki schedule.

Do we get a grade for this?
Along with the online survey will be a checklist for student attendance, engagement, and completion with activities

Student incentives
– from pop fund for end of each semester to be used outside of school such as a coupon for purchasing online music;

Advisor incentive – blue jean day or early out coupon for incentives with 90% compliance per semester.
